Application Information
Instructions for use

Priming

Keep the prepared substrate damp by applying SBR Bonding Slurry to prepared concrete substrate as a bonding and
priming layer.

To prepare the SBR bonding slurry, mix 1 part of SBR LATEX RIPRESA with 2 parts of clean water and add 3 parts by weight of fresh cement and mix until a smooth consistency is achieved.

BRE hammer (soundness) test is the preferred and recommended non-destructive test method on site for the confirmation of the screed quality. Test can be used on bonded screed of minimum thickness of 75mm.

Application Procedure

Colmef recommends to pre-approve the mix design to make sure the desired consistency and strength level will be achieved. During the application of NEOCEM SCREED FS, the recommendations BS8204-1 should be followed.

Following mixing dosage shall be used on site:

Recommended sand source and mix design for (10 - 80)mm screed thickness:
Dune Sand (0-2)mm: 50% / weight blended with
Gulf Rock (2-4)mm: 20% / weight
Gulf Rock (4-8)mm sand: 30% / weight

Mixing

Pour graded aggregate into a blender or mixer according to the recommended mixing ratio. Add 1 part of NEOCEM SCREED FS to 3 parts by weight of the aggregate mix and mix for 1 minute then add water and mix quickly for 3-5 minutes. Do not add excessive amount of water.

Quantity of water in the mix should be adjusted according to water content in the sand (if wet sand is used). The right water content is essential to allow a complete hydration of the binder and to achieve the right workability in order to get a smooth surface without cracks after troweling.

Application

Spread the mortar with a shovel, trowel, or surface scraper, compact, scrape off with a levelling board, rub down with a wooden board and smooth if necessary. Use plastic sheets to protect newly applied screed from too rapid dehydration up to 7 days.

Compaction

Low strength of screed is a result of insufficient compaction of pre-mixed mortars. Therefore, a stiff-plastic fresh mortar consistency is recommended. A dry consistency may result in low strength due to insufficient compaction which leaves voids (air pockets) within the screed matrix.

Curing

Curing and drying times may considerably increase at low application and substrate temperatures or high humidity The relative humidity should not exceed 70% during the curing process. In principle, the residual moisture should be checked prior to the application with vapour-tight floor coverings.

Cleaning

Tools and mixing vessels must be cleaned with water immediately after use. Hardened materials can be mechanically removed.

Recommendations

  • Do not mix excessive quantity of water as it will extend the time of drying and will, when dries, create uneven surface with cracks
  • No further water should be added to the mix. Hard and set mortar should be removed or used.
  • Do not wet the top of applied screed for the purpose of smoothing it with the trowel
  • BRE Screed Test is recommended
Surface Preparation

The surface must be sound, clean and uncontaminated. This preparation shall be such as to leave a sound exposed concrete surface free from dust, loose particles and any deleterious matter. If the concrete surface is defective or has laitance, it must be cut back to a sound base. Excess laitance deposits are best removed by light mechanical scrabbling, grinding or grit/captive blasting followed by vacuum cleaning to remove dust debris.

Additional Information
Health & Safety

NEOCEM SCREED FS can be harmful to skin as it contains cement powders which may releases alkalis when mixed with water.

During application, wear appropriate protective clothing, goggles, gloves and respiratory equipment if necessary.

In case of contact with skin, rinse with water and again wash thoroughly with soap and water. In case of contact with eyes, rinse with plenty of water and seek medical advice accordingly.
